The Purple Lipstick.

Why shuould you ever wear a purple lipstick?
 1- Because it ll look so good on you.
2- Because you wanna try something different from all the zillion shades of pink and red.
3- Because you are a fashionista and Mac has made whip lipstick and everyone is buying so you gotta have one.
4- Because your friend has one.
5- Because you are bold and want to be the first to try it on.

Whad ever...  Do you have a purple lipstick ? Have you tried zaron's Distinct or Jackelin USA s Violet or mac's whip. any shade in the purple family?

 How purple can these models get.

The bronzer kits ? You may have to save it for the pros ....just saying

"Can someone please tell me what highlighting and bronzing hype  is all about ", thats what a frustrated lady asked me during her personal makeup class session.

She has this large and puffy makeup bag filled with designer makeup  even a countour kit was in it (only that she was using the stuff as an eyeshadow). She said makeup studios and cosmetic shops have sold her sold her everything 'cept a 64 pcs brushet.

 Now highlighting is what a professional makeup artist can do for you. Its hardly what one can add as her daily routing . same goes for bronzing. So ladies , please leave it for your big day and for a makeup studio quick job. Yeah cos the best way to spoil your makeup is to highlight the wrong place and over  bronze the entire face.A well contoured and highlighted face should look like this -

Now the second pix is sweet  and professional but the forehead looks so shiny ,imagine it on both cheeks and nose - mmmh?
Save it for the pros ,or go for a personal 1week makeup class before buying a bronzer and contour kit.

How to start a makeup school

Why does every makeup artist become a self acclaimed trainer. Not everyone can train cos not every student can become a teacher.Makeup art is indeed a sensitive area cos it changes with time , tools and techniques and styles and types, faster that medical training but slower than fashion. Yeah.

Now if you must be a trainer you have to be running on topics updated regularly, practicals with upto date makeup tools and items in all or most of its varieties. If not then just pick an apprentice that tags along with u and makes do with what u got. One luxury a trainer has though is the choice of locations at will. At home , different states , countries and even in a students home .Yeah.

A makeup school on the other hand will have to have a location address  - building or tent at least .You have to have a well tailored curricullum that covers your local needs and international shoulder rubs.yeah? So-

• MAC curricullum, and at least 3 top makeup schools around you has to be comparable to your new school.
• competitions have to take place among students (and between schools if possible)
•  Assignments should be able to be done
• Research and filling of research got .yeah.
• participate in events adequately and comfortably ,-fairs ,exhibitions , programmes and community services as you grow.

Now a makeup school is what it is , a school. If you say makeup school then it has to have basic facilities. Not expensive but can turn out students that ll be proud of your school give you referrals and of course hold their own in the industry.

  A makeup school therefore needs -

a-  Space ( for students to move freely around their work booths and breath)

b-  Good lighting ( Natural windows lights and|or white florescent lights)

c-  Great ventilation ( Natural windows, or air conditioning.industrial fans are

 good too)

d-  Cheery wall colors ( oranges , pinks, whites, yellow, lemon) its a learning booster.

e-  A laptop standard size or a projector .yeah.

f-  A semi pro - camera to capture befores and afters ,as well as progress.

g- Mirrors and more mirrors  ( straight flowing wall mirror, or in booths)

h- A fully equipped makeup box with at least 3varieties of each item e.g lipgloss - in pallette ,in tubes and in dip its or pots 

foundation- in cream , in cream to powder and in liquid.)

i- Apron sets ( complete with hair holder , client's bib and students brush apron.

j- brush cleaners, a carton of makeup wipes

k- A mini  makeup shop ( owned by school or closeby)

l-  lunch rack (owned by you or closeby)

m- A mini reception ( manned by a staff ,to regulate traffic and prevent distractions by enquirers.

n- A music piece  ( stereo , ipad, home theater ) for a serene environment or work environment at will.

 for the academic materials -

1.  a work folder for theory classes
2. at least 3 -5 makeup test books 
3. internet connection for the premises or at least your laptop ,yeah.
4. a rack of current beauty magazines 
5. as you grow ... photocopier and lots more
6. *please am assuming your company or school is legally registered i beg you earnestly. and please pay your tax ,yeah? and  then you ll be free to issue certificates to your  students.

   With this you ll be good and on your way to running something you ll be proud to show your kids.It's not hyper wow ,but at the same time its not rock bottom .I don't wanna post pictures , your dream is in your head ,give birth to it, darling.You can do it ! Budget and begin! Go ! Go! i did it!

Hello beauties, here am i again being a mirror for the makeup artists who are going professional. Am sure you keep wondering what else to buy when you are stocking up your business. Should you get another shade of blush ? or should you get the same shade of MAC lipstick Bobbi Brown version ? Good but you need to take a break from your makeup items once you see yourself rebuying. You have to start repackaging yourself .How ? by making sure you have all the righ gadjets or upgrade to the newest.

You need a makeup chair especially if you do not run an addressed studio.Or you do many behind the scene jobs example movies ,musical videos , peagents or even fashion shows. Some makeup lines have an instant studio kit box complete with lightings. The makeup chair brings your client straight o the level of your face ,this way ,you wont suffer back ache and fatigue from working long hours.pix below.

2-EYELASH CURLERS
Yes its great for your work as a pro especially if you are doing falsies.The real and the false lashes crimp together and bond so that pictures of side views wont pick them separately.The curler now come in cool colors no longer just  steel. makes it look user friendly.

For Makeup Artists going up the professional lane .

Hello beauties ,this post is for Makeup artists who are going professional .Now am sure it was fun stocking up your makeup box with lovely pencils ,lipsticks of different shades, blushes, a great great brush set ,mascaras and all. Now after a few jobs ,you find yourself asking , umm ...i think i need MAC version of zaron tinky-winky , or a Tara lip pallette after you've got the sleek lip color compact only to discover the MAC version of it is da bomb......
Before you keep shopping for the same stuff over, look into your Makeup Accessories. This is what helps you package your profession  professionally.

1-MAKEUP ARTIST BINDERS:
You sure need to put yourself together .yea you need to keep a documentary of all the jobs you have done ,dates done,and if possible the work crew. Your next appointments needs be recorded too.This will help you with the future big time breaks you gonna get .Am talking about interviews in view too as well as follow up and networking . You are a pro so package like one.A card holder is also an asset here to keep all your cards not just in your wallette. Pix bellow

2-APRON SET
Your work apron says a lot about your job. You need an apron set ,complete with client's bib, a head band to hold her away from the makeup, can be used for facials and your own apron with brush pockets and a name patch. your name patch helps you to advertise your name on the pictures you work apperar on, yeah . pix below

3-MAKEUP BOXES
Your makeup boxes should help you not burden you. Yes trolley boxes are great but are good for bog jobs like peagents ,fashion shows and all where thers no room for a trial .You can get yourself a work box where you can pick the items you need after a test and stock them up for work.Some boxes are instant studio set,complete with lighting.They are great for freelancers who hv no studio address.pix below.

4- COSMETIC BUD SET
This is different from the baby bdu cup.The cosmetic version has the buds in fancy shapes including cotton wool and cutton pads.I use the round tip to wipe my brows into perfect shape and the nipple tip for wiping lip edges into shape and creating room for highlighting.pix bellow.

A makeup artist needs to be known, not only in her locality but far and wide. Like i tell my students you musn't stick around and wait for your friends or relatives to get married  so as to do their makeup, no! you have to let the world see your skills !  You go girl (or guy ,ofcourse !)

So you have to advertise .
Get a flier and pack it up with at least 3 pictures of your work and your contacts- mobile phone number and at least your face book page should be there,then web page ,blog etc get friends(or pay up) to help you share it at malls and plazas ,parking lots , worship centres,etc

A complimentary card is a slower way to advertise especially on location where you are likely to meet, photographers , drinks company, video man ,hair stylists and of course impressed persons. It should contain your name  and contacts and other stuff u can do e.g waxing ,nails tech ,hair styling if so ,at the back of the card too.

Don't forget to team up with other related business outfits that run in your circles .Am talking about bridals houses, photo studios ,hair saloons and of course bigger makeup studios than yours ,if any. These outfits ,if rubbed gently the right way, can always call you up when they are asked of a makeup artist.Before you know it ,you are a team working weekly, no longer seasonaly.Even makeup studios need more hands when they get big jobs like peagents, fashion shows or reality shows ,yeah? so mingle and lick ass a little bit sometimes.
Post your jobs on social medias (don't forget to water mark it with your work name) its an advert and peoples eyes tell them whats good

Ok so , while you are at it and the money keeps coming in ,begin to place adverts on magazines , bulletins and programmes  e.g vogue (yeah, vogue! hehe ) , tw , complete fashion ,Elle(uh huh) , cinema guides , worship  bulletins ( make sure the population is more than 10,000 to get value for your money ,yea?)

And thats what i did today ! , advertise on a church bulletin. God bless you and i, God bless Makeup artists ! God bless the earth !
